Before the proliferation of ferry services, people traveled across the Victoria Harbour by means of sampans. In 1888, a Parsee merchant named Dorabjee changed that when he founded the first company, Star Ferry Co Ltd, to provide frequent ferry rides to the public. Today the fleet includes 9 diesel-electric ferries that operate between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui daily.
There are two routes:
1. Central to Tsim Sha Tsui
Ferries operate every 6 to 12 minutes, starting from 06:30 to 23:30 daily.
2. Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui
Ferries operate every 8 to 20 minutes, starting from 07:30 to 23:00 daily.
Fares vary between adult and child but roughly range between $2 and $3.4, depending on lower or upper deck. For those looking for a more memorable time, consider taking a harbor tour on Shining Star ferry, an existing vessel remodeled after that of the 20s design.
