Explore Hong Kong’s outlying islands and hiking trails!

Billy Chan, Chief Concierge, The Murray Hong Kong

Years in Industry: 16 years

Favourite Hobby: Outdoors and sports - swimming (I’m a certified lifeguard) or hiking or jogging, I love the outdoors. Traveling too, again exploring nature and outdoors.

Favourite Hong Kong: Trying out new local food outlets and keep myself up to date on all the latest happenings and places to visit in the city.

My recommendation: Visiting an outlying Island and check out some of the villages there
1.Lamma Island: Known for its quaint village, scenery and seafood. Take the trail from Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwo Wan, a pleasant walk that takes you by Hung Shing Yeh Beach with scenic views along the way. Be sure to try the Kin Hing tofu custard on the way.

2.Tai O Fishing Vilalge: A popular destination on Lantau Island. Stroll along Tai O Market, sample local delicacies and buy locally made shrimp paste; take a boat ride and if you have time, hike the trail to Fu Shan, a hill nearby with stunning views and a great photo spot.

Bonus Recommendation: Hiking Trails:
1.From Wu Kau Tang to Sam A Wan to Lai Chi Wo near Tai Po: a relatively easy walk, nice scenery; bird watching, mangroves.

2.MacLehose Trail Section 1 and 2: Nice scenery, excellent unspoilt beaches and a Geopark location no less.

Extra Tip: Try out local food at
1.Kam Fung Restaurant for its traditional cold milk tea and pineapple bun.
2.Sin Heung Yuen for its tomato noodles and crispy toast with condensed milk.
3.Australian Dairy Company for its milk pudding, scrambled eggs with milk and toast.
4.Samsen for is famous boat noodles – try the one with Angus beef. .

Last Advice: Check with your concierge on how to get to some of these places; once you know the directions, your journey becomes much more enjoyable and stress free.
