Try out paragliding from some of Hong Kong’s most scenic mountains

Name: Mike Yuen
Title: Chief of Concierge, Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
Years in industry: 15 years plus
About Me: I am a local guy – born and grew up here. I joined the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, first at the Excelsior starting out as a bellboy and worked there for 7 years. I then transfered to Landmark Mandarin Oriental 8 years ago.
I really enjoy my job, especially after I transferred here. I meet such a fascinating variety of guests, from the down to earth to the superrich. Their requests can be unpredictable and interesting, allowing me be exposed to things I would never otherwise have.
Favourite Hong Kong activity: I like outdoor and sports activities. I used to do a lot of swimming, scuba diving and even boxing. I like to hike challenging and scenic trails such as Sunset Peak in Lantau, or Ma On Shan. However, as a new parent with a baby boy, my hobby is spending time with him as much as possible, especially in the last few months.
My Recommendation: Try out Paragliding from some of Hong Kong’s most scenic mountains
Paragliding is catching on. There is a company that offers lessons for beginners. It takes about 5 to 6 hours. You would learn the basics and then try it out. The instructor would be with you the whole time during the glide. Lantau Peak, Dragon Back, and Ma On Shan are some of the favourite spots for paragliding.
Bonus recommendation:
Explore some lesser-known places in Central and mid-levels. From the Mid-level Escalators. You can check out some wall murals on Graham Street. The Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum has a nice photogenic building, as is the Tiffany-blue coloured mosque located on Shelley Street and Mosque Street just below Robinson Road.
Extra Tips
For local food, you should try wonton noodles. Check out Tsim Tsai Kee Noodle shop located below the escalators in Central on Wellington Street. (98 Wellington Street).
Last Advice: Because of the coronavirus outbreak, some events and activities may be cancelled, and some establishments may be closed. Please check with your concierge for the latest updates.
