Discover Shatin and Tai Po by Bike

Ted Wong

Chief Concierge,
ALVA HOTEL BY ROYAL

Hotel Industry Career:

About Me:

I started my careers as a bell attendant in the Harbour Plaza Metropolis right after I received my diploma. I then went back to school and completed a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. I joined the pre-opening team of Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees after graduated and last year I took a new challenge: to be one of the pre-opening team of ALVA HOTEL BY ROYAL.
I really enjoyed the job in Concierge. I like interacting with guests and assisting them with their needs and requests. Every day we face different challenges based on our guests’ needs. I get real satisfaction from being able to help them.

Hong Kong Favourite:
Hong Kong is a food paradise; you can find cuisines from all over the world. To experience real local culture, dai pai dong will be the best choice. Dai pai dong food stalls were very popular after the Second World War, serving food and drinks to the general public at affordable prices. Nowadays, dai pai dong can only be found in certain districts such as Sham Shui Po and Central.

Discover Shatin and Tai Po by bike

Cycling in Shatin is popular among locals and visitors alike. You can rent a bike and cycle to either Tai Po or to Wu Kai Sha near Ma On Shan. To ride to Tai Po area, start at Shatin Park along Shing Mun River and ride to Tai Po along the river and then Tolo Harbour promenade before ending at the Tai Po Waterfront Park. It's a nice scenic route suitable for the whole family. For hotel guests of ALVA they can borrow a complimentary bicycle from the hotel.

Bonus Recommendation:
Hike some of the trails at Lion Rock Country Park:
Covering a wide upland region between North Kowloon and Shatin, Lion Rock Country Park offers famous sights including the monumental Lion Rock and Amah Rock. Here, you'll also find some of Hong Kong's best loved and rugged hiking routes, including the MacLehose Trail and Wilson Trail that pass across the uplands. There is also the less challenging Eagle's Nest Nature Trail and Hung Mui Kuk Nature Trail.

Extra Tip:

Chan Kun Kee is a well known dai pai dong in Shatin district. Authentic Hong Kong flavours can be found here.
Signature Dish: Wasabi Hand-shredded Chicken
