Marriott Hong Kong Sha Tin

Alex Chow

Chief Concierge, The Courtyard by Marriott Hong Kong Sha Tin

HotelIndustryCareer : 24 years

About Me  :
I started my hotel career in 1997 as a baggage attendant, working at the JW Marriott Hong Kong. Since then, I've moved through different positions within the concierge department at some of the city's famous hotels including The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, the now closed Furama Hotel, Island Shangri-la and the Landmark Mandarin.

Having spent almost a quarter century in concierge, I have developed a real passion to excel, to serve our guests’needs above and beyond their expectations. I enjoy being able to meet different people from around the world, and from all walks of life. My motto: Make every stay a new experience for my guests and have them walk out with a smile!

Bonus Recommendation:
1 Street food tasting in Mong Kok. The best place to go is near Gala Place along Sai Yeung Choi Street. It’s a street food haven, and a real Hong Kong activity.

Explore Ma On Shan Country Park. The park is a beautiful area for hiking with trails suitable for the whole family. The entrance to the Country Park has a BBQ area, and kids can also play football or fly kites. It's easily accessible from our hotel .

Extra Tip  :
Check out our new Courtyard by Marriott Excursion Map. The map identifies prominent points of interests in this area and suggests several itineraries. It takes the worry out of your planning.

Sha Tin has a lot to offer in term of cultural history. Tsang Tai Uk, a preserved Hakka wall village is worth visiting, as is Che Kung Temple, one of the city's largest temples. My favourite is the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery which has over 10,000 statues on display. You can get there from the MTR station; it's a climb of 400 odds steps. Along the way you can admire the fascinating collection of varying Buddhist statues before being rewarded with panoramic views of Sha Tin below you.

Favourite Hong Kong activity :

As a lifelong Sha Tin resident, I love to go biking which Shatin is known for. There are dedicated paths, so it is safe. The ride to Ma On Shan and Tai Po is wonderfully scenic and enjoyable.

What I love about Hong Kong :

Its street food, for sure. Whether it’s fish-ball, stinky tofu, or egg waffle, Hong Kong’s street food is so good! Our visitors love to venture out the streets in search of yummy local treats.
