Thousand Island Lake Hike

Name: Yo Law

Title: Chief Concierge, Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel

Hotel industry career: 16 years
About Me: After my schooling, my dad encouraged me to work in hotels. I enrolled in a diploma course in hospitality at the Kwun Tong VTC. For my summer internship, I went to work at the Harbour Plaza North Point at the concierge. I quite liked the varied nature of the job, not knowing what awaits the next request or challenge. I did well-enough that the hotel asked me to join full time which I did after one year at the school. I rose through the ranks, from bell boy to captain. I then was seeking a new challenge.  As it happened, my family moved to the New Territories, and I was fortunate to join Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel 9 years ago, becoming eventually the Chief concierge. Unlike a city hotel, here at our hotel where many of our guests are local resident, for us,  the emphasis is more on providing services to our guests.

Favourite Hong Kong activity: I enjoy playing soccer, go fishing, and explore Hong Kong. Fishing is relaxing for me; I do it either on a boat with friends or by the waterfront where my wife and I would bring our dog along. It’s such a relaxing activity.

What I like about Hong Kong: I love the city’s transportation infrastructure and its public transport system. You can practically get to everywhere in less than an hour or so, even in the New Territories.

My Recommendation: Thousand Islands Lake Hike: A hike up the tai Lam Chung Reservoir, dubbed Thousands Island Lake, is quite popular. Start from So Kwun Wat Road, going uphill until it intersects MacLehose Trail Section 10. It’s a comfortable hike and a gentle climb. Your destination is the reservoir viewing point. The whole return trip takes less than 2.5 hours. The views are gorgeous and breathtaking.

Bonus Recommendation 1: Tuen Mun- Chek Lap Kok Link waterfront at Ho Wai Street. This is the latest and newest spot for Instagrammers. Dubbed Tuen Mun Miami Beach, it is located at the very end of the waterfront where the tunnel goes into the sea, at Ho Wai Street. Here you’ll see people fishing, bicycling, and of courses taking scenic pictures

Bonus 2: Enjoy seafood at San Shing Hui which it is famous for. You may want to try the Dragon Inn Seafood Restaurant on the other side of Castle Peak Road.  You can get your fresh catch at the seafood stalls along the street.

Extra Tip: Finally, before you go out, approach the concierge desk for the latest updates on Covid-19 restrictions.
