Raymond Chan Tai Fai

Chief Concierge, WM Hotel

Hotel industry career: 28 years

About Me: Since my family worked in the hotel industry, it was natural that I would also, which I did after my schooling upon my sister’s suggestion. I started working at the Majestic Hotel in 1993, then joined to help open the Rosedale on the Park in Causeway Bay in 2000 where I worked for 12 years there because I got along well with my colleagues who are of the same ages; we formed a close bond amongst us and became good friends. I then went to help open the Rosedale Kowloon in 2021 before coming here at WM Hotel in Sai Kung to help with its pre-opening as Chief Concierge.
I very much like the job of concierge - its job nature is varied and interesting and I enjoy interacting with and serving guests.

Favourite Hong Kong activity: I love the outdoors. I love to take my kid to enjoy outdoor activities – hiking, swimming, and biking. It’s healthy and fun for both of us. I enjoyed eating too, of course, checking out different places for great local food.
What I like about Hong Kong: Its rich food culture, for sure! In Hong Kong you can enjoy cuisines from all over the world and go to restaurants ranging from cheap, affordable to ultra-high end.  And the convenience – Hong Kong is so easy to get around, whether it’s shopping or dining or sightseeing.

My Recommendation: Sai Kung – the great outdoors. It’s great for outdoor activities such as hiking, island hopping, canoeing, or swimming at beaches like the ones on Sharp Island.  I especially recommend visiting Yim Tin Tsai, a small island off Sai Kung accessible by ferry. It’s got a small village, an old school turned heritage museum, a 100-plus year-old church, and even salt ponds too. The Hakka restaurant there is excellent – it has its own boat to take you back after dinner there.

And I suggest you stay at our newly opened WM Hotel here in Sai Kung -a perfect getaway for your staycation. The hotel looks stunning architecturally. It’ll have over 260 rooms when fully opened and will feature a shopping arcade. And you will love our stunning 70-meter wrapped around infinity pool that offers spectacular views of sea and green.

Bonus Recommendation 1: Visit Causeway Bay, one of the city’s busiest areas. So many things to do there where you can eat, shop, and just hang out with friends.
Bonus Recommendation 2: Try out excellent restaurants here in Sai Kung town such as Susanna Steak and Seafood, which serves decent Western food at reasonable prices, and Loaf On, a Michelin one-starred Chinese seafood restaurant. Wo Kee, a cha chaan teng restaurant by the bus terminus, is good too – they bake great pineapple buns.
Extra Tip: Finally, before you go out, approach the concierge desk for the latest updates on Covid-19 restrictions.
