This drama tells the legendary life story of a merchant of the late Qing dynasty and his remarkable tactics in the complex power struggles of his day. Hu Xueying experienced life’s vicissitudes, but survived and prospered through astute observation of trends and the ability to utilise those around him. Thus Hu transformed himself from a penniless lad to the nation’s top merchant, powerful enough to rival the court. Winner of numerous awards, this drama, performed by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, will excite and enthral Chinese-language theatregoers anew with a revised script and fresh cast.
