2021 BMW Hong Kong Derby

The BMW Hong Kong Derby is the ultimate prize in the three-race Four-Year-Old Classic Series and a once-in-a-lifetime challenge. Staged at a distance of 2000 metres, it is a supreme test for Hong Kong's emerging stars.

The list of past victors attests to that, with Ambitious Dragon, Designs On Rome, Werther and Rapper Dragon, among the Derby winners to subsequently claim Horse of the Year honours in the same season.

Last year the Francis Lui-trained Golden Sixty won the Derby and emulated Rapper Dragon’s feat in 2017 for a clean-sweep of all three Classic Series legs. Winning rider Vincent Ho became the firsthomegrown jockey to win the Derby since 1995, while Lui and Ho became the first Chinese trainer jockey partnership to win the race since 1986.

BMW have sponsored the Hong Kong Derby since 2013 and the race’s prize money increased fromHK$20 million to HK$24 million in 2021. Be sure to mark your calendar and get ready to enjoy one ofthe premier races of the season!
