Sports For Hope Foundation out to set Guinness World Record for Tennis; New Record for Foundation fund-raising

The Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF) is embarking on its second major fund-raiser with a unique attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for Most Consecutive Opponents, Tennis Singles. The Guinness World Record attempt is expected to encompass more than 30 matches and over 60 sets over a 30-hour continuous period and will be held on November 15-16, 2014 at the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

In cooperation with the Hong Kong Tennis Association, this event will be accompanied by a festival of tennis with tennis clinics, youth and mini-tennis activities and more. The event will be open to public. This extraordinary endurance record attempt will be made by local tennis professional Jérôme Lacorte, a familiar face on the local tennis scene. The current Guinness World Record for most consecutive opponents played in tennis singles is 28 by Thomas Allard (UK) at Thornhill Cricket & Bowling Club in England last year.

Jérôme will be attempting to break this record by playing 30 or more opponents. Sports for Hope Foundation’s fund-raising target is HK$10 million, besting the HK$8 million raised from the charity’s first fund-raising drive in 2011. Each singles match will be based on a Best-of-Three sets format. Even if each match is decided in straight sets, Jérôme will have to play more than 60 sets. This is an endurance event that is estimated to last between 30 to 40 hours with nothing more than short bathrooms breaks for Jérôme in between games.

SFHF is now seeking charitable donations to help Jérôme set the world record and to help the Foundation set a new ‘personal best’ in funds raised to support the charity’s ongoing programmes and new projects. The Foundation has set a target of raising over HK$10 million through this year’s campaign. Unique to most charity campaigns in Hong Kong, the SFHF Guinness World Record attempt will raise funds from those who register (on an individual or corporate basis) to play against Jérôme and to become a part of our collective team effort to set the Guinness Record.

The Foundation welcomes everyone, from avid tennis players to enthusiastic amateurs and lovers of sport to support and participate in this worthy cause.
