With ith the stadium consistently sold out over Sevens weekend, the Hong Kong Rugby Union makes significant efforts to share the excitement with the wider community.
In recent years, the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens citywide fan zones have attracted more cumulative visitors than the 120,000 spectators inside the stadium over the tournament weekend.
In 2019, the HKRU is focusing its efforts on two fan zones, at the Harbourfront Event space on Hong Kong’s iconic waterfront in Central and at Lee Gardens in Hong Kong’s premier shopping district of Causeway Bay.
Rockin’ Rugby with Gwen Stefani
Start Sevens weekend on a rockin’ rugby note at the Hong Kong Sevens Fan Zone in Central with a special concert by three-time Grammy Award winner Gwen Stefani, presented by Marriott Bonvoy on Friday night, 5 April. Trendsetter Stefani has achieved worldwide success as a performer, songwriter, and recording artist and has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide with No Doubt and as a multi-platinum solo artist.
The concert marks the first time Stefani has performed in Hong Kong for more than a decade. Tickets are priced at HK$780 and available via Ticketflap. Gates open at 5.00pm
HONG KONG SEVENS CENTRAL
The party continues in the same space on Saturday and Sunday with Sevens Central, the open-air rugby carnival that runs from noon to 8.00pm daily, providing live music from some of Hong Kong’s top bands and acts, roving entertainers, food and beverage, face painting and of course all of the action from the Hong Kong Stadium televised on big screens throughout the venue. Come out and enjoy the weekend with a picnic on the purpose-built rugby pitch at Sevens Central while you relax listen to live music from local Cantonese acts like Circle, Season of Change and DJ Nipper.
