Message from Hong Kong Rugby Union

On behalf of the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU), I am delighted to welcome all international visitors to Hong Kong and to the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2018, the world’s biggest and best rugby sevenstournament.

With 40 international teams taking part in 2018, accompanied by an exciting calendar of entertainment acts and other rugby tournaments, the Hong Kong Sevens truly is “where the world comes to play!”

For the expected 120,000 spectators inside the stadium over Sevens weekend – the highlight of Hong Kong’s sporting and social calendar, three days of worldclass rugby will be seamlessly interwoven with world-class entertainment and some of Hong Kong’s trademark rugby revelry.

Those visitors not attending the Sevens are encouraged to drop by our many community and public engagements this month, or to visit the hundreds of local bars and restaurants joining us in getting into the Sevens spirit.

Details of all that is happening in and around the city this week can be found in the pages of this guide and we once again thank the publishers for helping us to promote
the entire calendar of activities that have become famous worldwide as “Rugby Week in Hong Kong”.

Now in its 43rd year, the Hong Kong Sevens is an essential driver in growing and building awareness of rugby across our community. The success of the Sevens helps fund the Hong Kong Rugby Union’s wideranging development and social programmes year-round as we seek to introduce the benefits and values of the game to thousands of new participants from every walk of life in Hong Kong.

This would not be possible without the support of the thousands of fans who attend the Hong Kong Sevens every year.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who comes along for their incredible support down the years, and we look forward to seeing you all once again at the Sevens!

Robbie McRobbie
