Quan Alley

Quan Alley, a well-known upscale hot pot restaurant in Taiwan, recently opened its first overseas branch in Hong Kong, at Harbour City, the bustling mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, right on the waterfront. Notwithstanding the many excellent hot pot outlets already operating in the city, Quan Alley is destined to elevate the local hot pot dining scene, given its vaunted reputation for turning hot pot dining into an innovative culinary experience through its ambience, artful presentation and creative hot pot items. The passion and artistry behind the food is immediately evident in the design of the hot pot – a tailor-made “Reunion Pot” and thence in the array of hot pot items, many of them lovingly sculpted.

Quan Alley’s signature soup base is Yin Yan Hot Pot ($328), which comprises two separate soup bases: Black bone chicken soup made from the highly prized black chicken and Crimson Pit (red), Quan Alley’s signature soup base, with fresh Sichuan pepper, chili bean sauce, red chilli and Chinese herbs. What distinguishes Crimson Pit from other spicy soup bases is its distinct delivery of numbness and hotness in its flavour. A centre compartment housing the hot spices allows the slow and even release of the ingredients, providing a consistent spiciness and aroma throughout the dinner.

For hot pot items, we chose Ice pops ($128) made with shrimp, pork, cuttle-fish, candy kumquat and dough; Pineapple cake ($138) made with homemade tofu, shrimp, pork and squid; Nougat ($128), Pork Roses ($298), a beautiful arrangement of pork neck meat made into the shape of pink roses, a visually stunning vegetable combination arrangement, Veggie Bouquet ($238) and Quan Alley Dumpling King ($98).

Dining at Quan Alley is truly an enlightening hot pot experience; we highly recommend it.
