Pica Pica

The vibrant dining scene in Sheung Wan recently welcomed an exciting addition – Pica Pica – Spanish for “a little of this, a little of that”.

The contemporary Spanish tapas bar is operated by the Epicurean Group, one of the city’s leading dining groups, and helmed by Spanish chef Edgar Sanuy. Pica Pica offers a small-plate menu inspired by regional Spanish cooking methods and drawing on Chef Sanuy’s own culinary experience throughout Europe and Asia, using healthy ingredients for its dishes. Pica Pica also serves a nice collection of Spanish beers and wines plus its signature authentic Sangria recipes.

We sampled a slew of the menu’s tapas offerings, which are perfect for social gatherings or for just chilling out. We started with the Tomato Bread with Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil ($30) together with “Rusa” Potato Salad ($65), a traditional Spanish salad. Next came Slow-cooked egg, Morcilla, Potato Foam ($85, lunch only) and the Iberico ham croquette ($15/piece) deep-fried golden brown. They were followed by Octopus Galician Style on Potato “al caliu” ($130), Spanish Lazy Omelette with Morcilla & Choizo ($65), Spanish potato omelette medium rare ($55), and Bikini Sandwich ($90) of grilled chicken.

Several paellas are available, we chose Black Paella Rice ($115/ small and $195/bigger), which comes with prawns and clams. We managed two desserts: Catalan cream foam, vanilla ice cream ($50) and Dark Chocolate, hazelnut, extra virgin olive oil, salt ($70). It’s amazing how much food one can consume while chatting and nibbling.

What sets Pica Pica apart is both its friendly and relaxed ambience and the healthy, tasty food. We are sure that Pica Pica will make its mark in Sheung Wan soon enough. Give it a visit if you are anywhere nearby.
