TONO DAIKIYA Japanese Restaurant

If you are in the mood for an all-you-can-eat quality Japanese buffet, then Tono Dakiya, located in Tsim Sha Tsui, may be just the place. The spacious restaurant, which can seat up to 250 guests, specialises in both lunch and dinner buffets. On offer is a wide selection of Japanese cuisines, spanning sashimi, sushi and sushi rolls, teppanyaki, grilled sushi, vegetables, and meat items, noodles and hot pots, tempura, and specialty and a la carte items. A full complement of desserts and house sakes are also included in the package. Given the abundance of choice, it’s almost impossible not to overeat.

Highlights of our orders included Assorted Sashimi of toro, yellow tail, salmon, scallop, jumbo and sweet shrimp, whelk and shima aji. We also like the sushi, especially Mango & Sweet Shrimps w/ Lobster Cream, Abalone Slice – a real treat, and Tuna w/ White Truffle.

The grilled items are also well-prepared. We liked the Grilled Pomelo Pepper Beef and Sea Salt Grilled Flounder, Grilled Scallops and Grilled Lamb Chops. Several a la carte items caught our attention, particularly the Braised Fish Maw, Abalone & Shark Fin, as well as the Curry Crab in Tono Style. We also managed to find room Clams & Crab Congee and Pork Ramen w/Black Garlic Sauce before we dived in for a long lineup of desserts as a finale to a truly filling and satisfying meal.

The buffet is priced at $278 for lunch and $308 for dinner (Mondays to Thursdays) and $328 (Thursdays to Sundays and public holidays). Given the wide selection of dishes available we consider the buffet excellent value for money. Be sure to check it out – we highly recommend it.
