Old Kong Hotpot

In Hong Kong, eating Chinese hotpot is a year-round affair; a hearty meal of piping hot soup and freshly poached meats is good even in the heat of summer. And if you are interested to try Hong Kong old-style hotpot cooking, the recently opened Old Kong Hotpot, a quality hotpot restaurant that attempts to recreate the nostalgic feel through its dishes and its interior décor, is a good choice.

We should note that Old Kong Hotpot does not have an English sign. Don’t let that deter you though; its bright green signage is easily recognisable, and it’s located just next to a Starbuck coffee shop. The restaurant offers an English menu as well.

As with any hotpot meal, you need to choose a soup base in which to dip the ingredients. Old Kong offers over a dozen soup bases; we chose the Fish Maw and Chicken Broth ($198/small and $238/large). For ingredients we selected the signature Assorted Beef ($338) which include Angus Chuck Slices, Angus Beef Cubes, Beef Bone Marrow, Black Beef Stomach, White Beef Stomach and Honey Combed Tripe. Other ingredients include Mixed Handmade Meat Balls (4 types for $88) with cuttlefish, shrimp, beef and mud fish; Chinses Abalone ($38/piece); U.S. Oyster Barrel ($148); Crispy Fresh Grass Carp ($88); and Korean Pork Slices ($88). For vegetables, we chose Mixed Mushrooms ($68), Mixed Vegetables ($58) and Okra ($42). For drinks, we recommend you try both Syrup of Plum ($58/Jar) and Water Chestnut & Bamboo Cane ($58), both are refreshing and light.

Hotpot is best enjoyed with a group. If you happen to be with your family or friends and want to enjoy a hearty hotpot meal, go check out Old Kong Hotpot.
