Duck & Waffle

Acclaimed London restaurant Duck & Waffle, sitting high above the City financial district, recently opened its first-ever branch outside of London, to much fanfare. Located in ifc mall, Duck & Waffle offers British cuisine with European and American influences, serving up a combination of traditional and innovative dishes, offering guests a hearty and fun-filled dining experience.

Duck & Waffle’s layout is open and inviting, with a large take-out counter at the entrance and the main dining area framed by large windows overlooking over the harbour. An open kitchen and island bar bookend the outlet.

Designed for sharing, the food, best described as de-luxe comfort food, British style, centres around Duck & Waffle ($230), a delicious duck leg confit wedged between a fluffy waffle and a large fried duck egg, topped with homemade mustard maple syrup.

For our lunch, we started with some snacks: Cheesy Fried Polenta ($80), Bacon Wrapped Dates ($110) which is excellent, and 'Nduja & Gruyere Cheese ($70). The small plates included the highly touted Foie Gras Crème Brulee ($150 ) with a brioche bun and puffed pork cracking; Grilled Asparagus & Truffles ($145); Prawn and Grits ($185) – a real treat for those of us craving grits; and Brown Irish Crab Soup ($175).

For large plates, we had Duck & Waffle, of course, and Mushroom and Truffle Agnolotti ($215) with Pecorino Toscano, dusted ceps, crispy shallots and thyme, which is full of flavour.

Our desserts were Sticky Rice and Mango Waffle ($95) and Black Sesame Sticky Toffee Pudding, providing a fittingly solid end to a hearty meal.

Be sure to try the specialty cocktails, which include #Snapquack ($138), Duck & Stormy ($148), Slow Spritz ($138), Adios Amangos ($128), Duckquiri ($138), and the playfully named Another Pornstar ($128), a concoction of vodka, cream sherry, passion fruit, citrus and fizz.

With its combination of yummy food, relaxing drinks, and open and friendly ambience, Duck & Waffle is already a shining star of the local restaurant scene. You should definitely give it a go.
