DPD Deluxe

The recent opening of DPD Deluxe in Fortress Hill, a café-style outlet serving both Western and Chinese cuisines, is quickly garnering attention for its eclectic menu items, bright ambience, and food quality. While DPD stands for ‘dai pai dong’, the traditional local Chinese eatery, DPD Deluxe is far up the scale from any dai pai dong imaginable. Its sleek and modern décor is bright, warm and friendly, offering customers a comfortable setting for a relaxed meal.

DPD Deluxe’s menu, created by two separate teams of chefs, offers a mix of contemporary, trendy, and healthy Chinese and Western dishes that appeal to urban millennials, using seasonal and fresh ingredients from all over the world. There is also a smattering of vegetarian dishes featuring OmniPork and Beyond Burger as alternatives. DPD Deluxe serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

We were there for lunch and the restaurant was packed, mainly with office workers. For starters, we chose Wild Mushroom Cappuccino with Black Truffle Bread and Tofu Skewers ($60), which was a new, and tasty, dish for us – the tofu is an inspired touch. We also chose Crispy Shrimp Toast with Tobiko ($68), a yummy combo of shrimp and fish roe. For the entrees, we had dishes from several cuisines: French Blue Mussel Pot ($188) with garlic and rosemary cream sauce and sourdough is excellent; Tom Yum Seafood Soup ($148) with rice noodles is zesty and appetising; Grilled U.S. Prime Grain-fed Rib-eye ($198) with vegetables and potatoes and Dijon mustard is also a winner; as is Spaghetti Aglio E Olio ($138) with Hokkaido scallop, a tasty, aromatic dish.

DPD Deluxe serves a hearty, nutritious and healthy AllDay Breakfast ($128), which includes Hokkaido milk scrambled Japanese egg, crispy bacon, ham, Toulouse sausage, cherry tomato, beans in tomato sauce, roasted new potato, organic white mushroom and sourdough – a real English breakfast for the heartiest of appetites!

We think serving contemporary, mixed cuisines to a trendy, younger clientele is a successful niche, and DPD Deluxe is doing an excellent job filling it. We suggest you give it a try.
