Yat Heen

Since its opening, Alva Hotel by Royal, an upscale hotel located in Sha Tin, has gained a reputation for the quality of its dining options, which include the much-touted Japanese restaurant Mizutani, located on the top floor, and Yat Heen, serving refined, authentic Cantonese dishes. To welcome the onset of spring, Yat Heen is offering a Shining Beauty Menu – a selection of six healthy and nutritious dishes exquisitely prepared, plus desserts. The dishes feature premium ingredients used in Cantonese dishes that are known to improve one’s health, skin and beauty. We were eager to try.

Befitting a fine-dining restaurant, Yat Heen is tastefully decorated in a contemporary style; the spacious restaurant offers both a public dining area and private rooms for functions and banquets. The outlet serves both dim sum for lunch and features a large à la carte menu of Cantonese dishes.

Cantonese cooking tends to be mild and subtle in taste, drawing out the food’s natural flavours while preserving the nutritious value of its ingredients. Classic dishes are often slow-cooked – double-boiled soup, braised meats and steamed items for instance. That was certainly the case with our special meal.

We started with Marinated Cherry Tomato with Plum Jus, Smoked Tofu Sheet Roll and Crispy Pork Belly, with plum jus. The lycopene within the tomatoes is known to be a good source of antioxidant. Just as important, the food is tasty.

Doubled-boiled Hokkaido 3.6 Milk with Sea Cucumber and Peach Gum is next. The soup cooked with whole milk (3.6% fat) from Hokkaido is velvety smooth, and together with its ingredients provide collagen that is absorbed into the body and skin – it’s as healthy and nutritious as one can get. Steamed Scallop with Egg White and Bird’s Nest offers abundant protein which helps with cell membrane growth. The dish is delicately prepared with the egg white mixed into the bird nest sauce, topped by a succulent scallop.

Braised Fish Maw with Black Truffle Sauce is the featured dish. The fish maw, packed with collagen, is thick and generously portioned and braised to perfection. The savoury sauce helps provide the flavour. Grouper Fillet in Rice Soup with Yam, another dish rich in protein, is next. Fried Rice with Chicken and Beetroot, a yummy composition, rounds off the mains. The meal ends with a Dessert Combo (Doubled-boiled Sweet Soup with Dried Longan and Red Date, Red Bean Pudding, Seasonal Fresh Fruit with Plum), all of which are known to be good for the body.

It should be noted that in addition to the nutritious value and beatifying effects of the ingredients used, these dishes are also excellent for digestion owing to its milder flavour and seasoning. So, if you are

looking to cleanse your palette and enjoy a healthy meal that will enrich your body, the Shining Beauty menu ($738 per person, minimum two persons) is a good way to go. Give it a try!■
