Hong Kong’s Inaugural Exhibition of the World’s Largest Thousand Arms and Eyes Guanyin Liuli Sculpture

In 1996, Loretta H. Yang stood before the gradually peeling mural of the Thousand Arms and Eyes Guanyin, dated back to 800 years ago, in the Third Grotto of Dunhuang in Gobi Desert and was deeply moved. She decided to preserve the essence of the mural by Liuli as to continue Guanyin’s compassion and wisdom in the modern world. In the past 20 years, Yang made her creation with different materials and in different sizes. These creations are collected and kept by Fo Guang Shan and Dunhuang Academy China. Yang is also recognized by Master Hsing Yun as "the world's first and top" artist in creating Buddha sculptures.

20 years later in 2016, LIULIGONGFANG launches Belief Comes From Within - Only With Compassion: a Contemporary Art Exhibition by Loretta H. Yang, featuring the 2-meter tall Thousand Arms and Eyes Guanyin Liuli sculpture.

A tangible world record is not what Yang is seeking for. As the winner of Best Actress at the Golden Horse Awards, Yang’s experience in 124 characters in 124 movies enables her comprehension that love, life and death are the elements of unrests and troubles in everyone’s life. Through her creativity process, Yang studied intensively on Buddha’s merciful faces. Her lifelong work and self-examination are reflected in her work of over 400 pieces of Buddha sculptures.

Ateliers d’Art de France, the authoritative art organization in France, had selected Yang’s work to exhibit in Paris as her art “reflects the philosophy of meditation and resonates with the French’s pursue in physical expression of heart and soul”. Buddha is the form of enlightenment. Yang believes the creation of Liuli Buddha sculptures transcend in religious and culture for the realm of mutual understanding.

About LIULIGONGFANG

Founded in 1987 in Taiwan by award winning actress and film director, Loretta H. Yang and Chang Yi, LIULIGONGFANG (literally, crystal workshop) is the first ever LIULI art workshop. It soon became a well-established Chinese crystal art and cultural brand. When the crystal art developed prosperously in the world but without LIULI art (Chinese crystal art), LIULIGONGFANG chose to use and develop the pâte-de-verre technique to revive this Chinese ancient lost art. Today, LIULIGONGFANG has grown to become the synonym of Chinese crystal art, and Yang and Chang are recognized as the pioneers of contemporary LIULI art.

LIULIGONGFANG operates 70 galleries across Asia, Europe and the United States. It has exhibited in Japan, UK, Italy, Germany and France. Over twenty pieces have been acquired as the permanent collections of internationally renowned museums. The house also presented LIULI LIVING contemporary living design, bringing LIULI into everyday life. Drawing from Chinese elements and creative design, LIULI LIVING exploits the multi-faceted characteristics of modern day living.
